Improving Our Collective Efforts to Prevent and Mitigate Human-Wildlife Conflict

HWCC Projects

HWCC focuses its efforts on improving information exchange; raising awareness and communication among key sectors; enhancing capacity building and training among practitioners; improving decision making and policy development; and increasing understanding of the human dimensions of human-wildlife conflict.

Conservation and Conflict Experiential Training

HWCC provides a three-day training workshop in conflict resolution leadership, techniques and processes. This critical skills training program is essential for all wildlife professionals dealing with conflict in their work. HWCC is building on this training and its role as a third party neutral with the introduction of site-based conservation conflict analyses and conflict prevention and reconciliation stakeholder processes.

The next training workshops will be held June 1-3 and September 9-11, 2009.

Law, Policy and HWC

HWCC, in partnership with the Center for International Environmental Law, is leading a global comparative analysis on the laws and policies that impact HWC and human rights. The results will be used as a tool to ensure that development and conservation policies incorporate conflict prevention guidelines in their programs.

Information Sharing and Collaborative Learning

HWCC is conducting a strategic needs assessment to determine the best options for sharing information and facilitating collaborative learning across the globe. The results will complement and expand upon existing resources, fulfilling a need for timely, practical, innovative sharing of information on HWC.
